Step 8: The Fall
Roll once on the Fall Event table, follow the instructions, and then proceed to Step 9.
THE STORY:
The Fall affected everyone in Eclipse Phase. You are part of the small but lucky percentage of transhumanity that survived it. How you got through it and what impact this had on you is a major element of your backstory.

Roll on the Random Morph tables. 18–19 You are slain, not by the TITANs, but by hostile action from a rival government, faction, or hypercorp. Gain the Psi Defense (Level 2) trait (EP2). 31 Your experiences are a nightmare. +20 Know: TITANs but gain the Neural Damage trait (EP2). 32–33 You hide your body away in cold storage on Earth before farcasting off to safety. Roll on the Random Morph tables. 34–36 Your ego escapes the devastation of Earth, only to be locked away in cold storage for years. Roll on the Random Morph tables and skip Step 12 when you get to it. 37 Your ego survives the Fall but is locked in simulspace for years before you are resleeved. +10 Interface skill and roll on the Random Morph tables. 38 You keep your head together even when people around lose theirs to headhunters. Gain the Composure trait (EP2). 39 You narrowly avoid death multiple times. Gain the Danger Sense trait (EP2). 40 You heroically sacrifice yourself so that others can escape. +10 c-rep and roll on the Random Morph tables. 41 Your heroic actions are an inspiration to other survivors. Gain the Inspiring Moves trait. 42 The specter of constant danger heightens your senses. Gain the Situational Awareness trait (EP2). 43 You learn the hard way how susceptible you are to exsurgent influence. Gain the Psi Vulnerability (Level 2) trait (EP2). 44 You face off with multiple exsurgents and walk away. Gain the Melee Mastery trait. If you do not have Melee skill, exchange one active skill of your choice that you have of 60+ for Melee skill at the same rating. 45 The near extinction of your species hardens your resolve. Increase WIL by 5. 46 You hide and survive an encounter with exsurgents where others die. Gain the Psi Camouflage (Level 2) trait (EP2). 47 You end up in possession of a rare Earth artifact. Work with the GM to determine its nature and value. 48–49 You make a bad call that gets people killed. −10 c-rep. 50 After fleeing for your life on multiple occasions, you no longer panic. Gain the Mental Fortitude trait. 51–52 A nanoviral infection leaves you permanently damaged. Gain the Neural Damage trait (EP2). 53 You have unfortunate memories of some … thing … eating your face off. Roll on the Random Morph tables and gain the Timidity (Level 2) trait (EP2). 54 You witness unspeakable horrors during the Fall, standing idly by while others die. Gain the Combat Paralysis trait (EP2). 55 Several near-death experiences hone your awareness and reflexes. +10 Fray skill. 56 Your relatives die, but you are left as the sole heir to the family’s modest wealth that made it off-world. Gain Resources (level 1) trait (EP2). 57–59 You will never get the image of headhunter drones at work out of your mind. Gain the Mental Disorder (PTSD) trait (also on Disorders, EP2). 60 You exhibit natural leadership in a time of crisis. +10 to Persuade skill. 61 You survive. Your family and friends do not. Gain the Instability (Level 2) trait (EP2). 68 Not only do you die during the Fall, your backups are lost as well. You live on as a beta fork of your original self. Gain the Beta trait and roll on the Random Morph tables . 69–70 Your stack makes it off-world, but the memory of your death haunts you. Gain the Mental Disorder (Fugue) trait (also on Disorders, EP2). 71 One of your backups makes it off-world, but it has issues. Gain the Mental Disorder (Reiterative Schizophrenia) trait (also on Disorders, EP2). 72 You pull a lot of strings to get yourself off-world. Gain the Networking Talent trait. 73 You battle the TITANs and survive. Gain the Sharpshooter trait. If you do not have Guns skill of 60+, exchange one skill of your choice at 60+ with Guns skill of an equivalent rating. 74 You take risks to help discover things about the exsurgents or TITANs. +10 r-rep. 75 Your habitat comes under a digital TITAN attack, which you help repel. +10 Infosec skill. 76–77 You sell out your friends to guarantee your own safety. −10 to a rep score of your choice. 78 You are nearly killed by exsurgents, but survive by being sneaky. +10 Infiltrate skill. 79 You help a number of egos escape off-world to the outer rim. +10 @-rep. 80 You are infected with the Watts-MacLeod exsurgent virus (EP2), but grasp your abilities quickly.
